So the great match arrived. Things started very slowly. The 1 team despite their grading advantage were being careful. Geoff was first to finish, despite starting last as a substitute. In a position that looked favourable for Keith, he found two neat tricks both of which won an exchange. Nick was next eventually bursting through Eric’s centre and kingside. Some of the other games looked very close and so it continued. Wilson and Steve drew in an open attacking game. The match was secured when Ken lost on time. It seems that he was not aware of the new time control. On the board Chris had just won a pawn and was exerting pressure. Jon and Peter played a Queenless middle game followed by a long, long ending. Jon only gained a material advantage when it was down to N+3 v N+2. Jon then wrapped the ending up. Finally Ian had been attacking away at Duncan but stood R+2 v 2N. Hard to see who if anyone was making progress. Short of time Duncan shed a N and his position crumbled. 5.5 -0.5 flattered us. Peter an d Duncan probably deserved more than a 0 next to their names.
Thanks for your kind words, Geoff (assuming you wrote the report)
Yes I did. I thought it fair
