Another great result, ensuring the C team remain on maximum points so far this season. Four out of the five new players who recently joined the club took part in this game and we all returned home unbeaten, with wins for Ray, myself, Arkady and Rory (in his first game) and draws for Eric & Sean. Well done everyone 🙂
Another good win for the team, leaving us top of the table with ten points from ten. After two previous very long games, Sean had the luxury of finishing first with a good solid win. Arkady secured a draw, then Sam, who seemed nearly down and out at three pawns down, took advantage of his opponents mistake and went on to win. This left us on 2.5 / 5 with two games still to finish. Eric secured the draw to win the match, then Ray, playing his first game for us, wrapped up an impressive win just in time, for the match to finish 4-1.
Our first double pointer of the season, as Aughton, short on players this season, declined a second fixture. We had an immediate boost as they arrived with only three players, giving us a 1-0 advantage. They outgraded us on every board but credit to Eric, Sam and new player Sean, who all had very tight games.
Sam eventually succumbed to his very experienced opponent, Eric had the advantage all the way through but had to settle for a draw, leaving it all square with Sean to finish. His game had everything, down the exchange, getting it back, queen sacrifices, pawns on the 7th, a king on the run, eventually going into the end game a piece down, a Queen and a couple of pawns to his opponents Queen, Bishop and 3 pawns. Just when it looked like he may be on the losing end, his opponent lost his queen turning the game completely, with Sean achieving check mate after about 80 moves with 20 seconds left, getting his first win for the team.
Three wins out of three so far 🙂
